About Castleaf

This is an early editor demo. Export writes a separate file. Save an editable session from the File menu to keep marks editable.

Text adds a new mark. Select groups nearby original text into conservative sections by default, retaining every run and its spacing. Text sections can be switched off, and expanded Layers or Alt-click selects individual runs. Homogeneous sections with one original run per line can be edited together while keeping their original line count and baselines. Select can also edit supported individual original text runs and move original text, images, and shapes. The font picker identifies reported PDF font names, offers free alternatives and imports licensed static TrueType fonts. Original text edits can shrink to their original width and height, with the baseline preserved. Review the fit and readability before applying; keep-size mode can produce overlaps. Paragraph reflow, clipped content and complex-script replacement are not supported yet. Moves and page reordering retain links, forms, bookmarks and tags, with structure checks before export. Marked text cannot be replaced yet; reading order is retained rather than rebuilt. Hidden layers are omitted from exported PDFs but remain recoverable in a saved Castleaf session. No OCR, encryption, secure redaction, or digital certificate signing yet.

Select an object, then use its floating controls. Double-click supported text to edit. Arrow keys nudge; Shift + arrow nudges 10 points. Alt-click cycles overlapping objects. Ctrl/Cmd-click or the Multi-select button adds and removes objects. Drag empty page space to select a region. Selected objects move together; corner handles resize proportionally. Resize and arrange controls are available in Properties. Selection is local to the current page and is cleared when pages or documents change. Smart guides align dragged objects with page edges, page centers and visible objects on that page. Snap turns snapping and guides on or off; hold Shift during a drag to move freely. The live readout uses PDF points and shows the moved bounding box’s bottom-left X/Y and movement delta, including any crop offset. Guides are temporary and are never exported or saved. Escape cancels a drag. Ctrl/Cmd + Z undoes; Ctrl + Y or Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + Z redoes.

Drawing over words does not remove them. A drawn signature is a visual mark only.

Local autosave keeps the latest document and committed edits in this browser, including the original PDF. Restore it from the welcome screen or File menu. One tab can autosave at a time. Browser data clearing, private browsing and storage limits can remove or prevent recovery; download an editable session for a durable backup. Drafts are stored unencrypted on this device and are not uploaded.

Sessions contain your original PDF and edits, unencrypted. Keep them private. Review exported documents before using them.
